Nostalgic. One of my college buddies emailed me out of the blue telling me that he's here in Manila taking a break. I got to meet him last weekend and he's been here for about 3 months already and that he's email is a long shot hoping someone would reply to it. We had a couple of drinks and did quite a lot of catching up with our lives. The last time I saw him was probably 7 or 8 years ago.... jeez. He's currently based in LA and is here in Manila for his sister's wedding. I was touched and was quite sad because of all of the classmates that we have in the class of 1D-Math, he tells me that I am the only one who took time in replying in his long shot email, even with his classmates in elementary and high school days didn't even replied to him. Well I told him that I will get in touch with others and set a meeting for the rest of our class. Hope he gets to extend his stay here since he'll only be here until Wednesday.

The Last Lecture

This lecture is one of the most inspiring lecture that I ever had (this does not include drinking sessions with my Math, Philosophy and Literature Professors in UST). The lecture was entitled Randy Pausch's Last Lecture: Really Achieving your goals last September 18, 2007. Dr. Randy Pausch aka Randolph Frederick Pausch (October 23, 1960 – July 25, 2008) was an American professor of computer science, human-computer interaction and design at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Pausch conceived the lecture after he learned that his previously known pancreatic cancer was terminal.*

I was able to come across his lecture early this year and was able to get my hands with the transcripts and his presentation for the lecture. The lecture was about his childhood dreams, enabling the dreams of others, and how you can achieve your dreams or enable the dreams of others. I highly recommend his lecture since they can be achieved by common people just like me. I was even surprised since one of his childhood dream was to win stuffed animals which he recommend others to try it, I've already tried getting one of those stuffed animals (actually I was able to get 4 of them) and all I can say is it really feels good to have an achievement as simple as getting a stuff toy in Timezone.

The entire lecture was captured in video and can be downloaded in his site or can even be viewed in Youtube for other's to see. The transcript and the powerpoint presentation used can also be downloaded from his site for those who are interested. There's also a published book about his last lecture which I believe to be available already in bookstores. I haven't seen the book yet but it's definitely included in my must-have list.

I love watching this video. It features Rex Navarrete, a known Filipino stand up comedian. He already performed in Manila before but I haven't got the chance to watch any. I get to know him for "SBC Packers" way back during my college days and I find this very funny so enjoy watching.

Last Sunday one of my college buddies invited me to watch a Japanese film in Shangri-la Mall. The film was part of Eiga Sai '08 in line with the celebration of Philippines - Japan Friendship Month (July) and one of the good part is watching those films are for free. It was the last day of screening in Shangri-la Mall and we were able watch Linda Linda Linda. The film is interesting since there are a lot of scenarios where fellow musicians can relate to and not to mention cute Japanese girls in high school uniforms. I had fun and can't stop singing "Linda Linda Linda" even though I have no idea what the rest of the lyrics is.... Haha...
