Dharma Story #1: Bridging Heart Distances

  • Feb 19, 2009
  • Post a comment

A sage asked his disciples 'Why do people yell at each other when they are upset?'

The disciples thought for a while, and one said, 'We lose our calm and so we yell!'

'But explain to me, why do you yell when the other person is right next to you?' asked the sage.
'Isn't it possible to speak to him or her with a soft voice? Why do you yell at a person when you're angry?'

The disciples gave some other answers but none satisfied the sage.

Finally the sage explained...

'When two people are angry at each other, there is a distance which arises between their hearts. To cover that distance they must yell, to be able to hear each other. The angrier they are, the louder they will have to yell to hear each other through that great distance.'

Then the sage asked...

'What happens when people are in love? They do not yell at each other but talk softly. Why? Their hearts are very close. The distance between them is very small.

The sage continued, 'What happens when their love for the other grows even more?
They do not speak, they only whisper. Their hearts come even closer with love. Finally they need not even whisper... they only look at each other and that's all. That is how close people are when they love each other. The heart is like one.'

Then the sage said, 'The lesson here is this: When you disagree do not let a distance come between your hearts. Relationships are far more important than specific outcomes. Do not say or do things that increase the distance between hearts, else there will come a day when the distance is so great that you may not find the path to return.'

Happy Hearts Day!

Happy Valentines Day!

We have various way to celebrate such event and for this year our creative team came up with quite a few activities for the day. First is the love notes, which is I think we also did last year, where we allocate a board wherein you can post any messages to your love ones. Messages can go as simple as "I love you" and can go absurd as "Anakan mo ako". It's fun to see such messages and especially when it's addressed to you just like what happened to Manong Kiko. Now we all know he has a lot of secret admirers around.

Another one is the Mr. and Ms. Hearthrob where both of our nominees won. What a sweet couple they were during the awarding day. We all asked for a kiss, the guy tries to kiss the girl and the girl avoids. What a classic scene... Haha! Instant Love Team!

And the last was wearing a shirt that represents you're relationship and the group came up with this list:

Wearcolors
Wearcolors

There were a lot of funny reactions after this email was sent. Some having problems of what shirt to wear on Friday night. Questions were raised like "What if I'm gay and in a relationship?" and this was actually answered by wearing a combination of black and white shirt. As for me I wore a brown shirt since I already have no shirt with above colors (Haha KJ!).

As QCs we usually doze off while listening to long calls and if a teammate sees you sleeping, chances are is that a picture of you is already taken. I keep my own collection and this one added with them. Kiko has already sent an email just like this one:

nonproductive day.... *sigh

Another non productive day for me today. I feel so tired even though I had enough sleep for the day. Earlier in my shift for the span of 5 hours I was able to monitor only 3 calls and they were not that long. I dozed off while listening to them. Haha! And there's this conference call with one of the big boss, the announcement that the call was cancelled was released 6 minutes after the scheduled time and I was still in the bridged after 20 minutes. Why? I dozed off again. Haha!

I just got my passport and next on my list is having an out of the country trip before the year ends. Now which country to go to?

I just took this personality test I came with while browsing links from USTe.TV and here's my result:

Your Type is

ESTJ

Extraverted     Sensing     Thinking     Judging

Strength of the preferences %

75               25               38               56

Qualitative analysis of your type formula

 You are:
very expressed extravert
moderately expressed sensing personality
moderately expressed thinking personality
moderately expressed judging personality

It's called the Jung Typology Test. The results have so many description for the ESTJ type and below are some links that would describe the result.

good health

I returned to check the results of the check up last Saturday and results were good. X-ray for my chest were clear so there are no signs that there's a pulmonary disorder. The blood count showed an increase of a particular type of white blood cell which indicates infection so I was prescribed with antibiotics to be taken within the week. Doctor says it's probably caused by stress since he recalled that I work in night shift and that I should get more rest. Hope I get to be better by next week for this is consuming a lot of my savings already due to the cost of medications. I also hope I can get a week off to rest.

I'm not getting any better after taking in some medications. Yesterday I decided to visit a doctor to see what really is the problem why I'm still sick for the past 3 weeks (or rather it keeps on going back for the past 3 weeks). After a few minutes of waiting I first consulted the expertise of an EENT Doctor since I complained about my throat, he says there's nothing wrong so I was referred to another doctor. They measured my blood pressure which is about 130/90 and is already in the upper limits. I have to get back to them this Friday morning for the results of the X-Ray and the blood sample. I thought I can already proceed with the morning jog this weekend around Araneta or UST.
